In the world of Law & Government there are a lot of ethical issues that arise and are debated. We always have three sides to the story in law, the truth, the lies, and what really happened. Law comes with a lot of debates and discussions because not everyone believes in the same thing. When it comes to the ethical issue of wether the death penalty should be a type of punishment is the biggest of all. There are pros and cons when it comes to the death penalty.
One pro is that it would punish someone for a crime they committed, depending on the crime that happened. When you research the death penalty a lot of people say that it is immortal and that they do not believe in it. They say this because Murder is wrong. It will always be wrong. taking your life or someone else's life is a sin, so therefore people believe that we shouldn't have the death penalty. Religion and others faith and beliefs come in to play with this ethical issue.
One con is that sometimes the death penalty is seen as cruel and unusual punishment because putting someone to death for killing someone else doesn’t help the crime, it doesn’t really give justice or let the person dewell on what they did wrong or allow them to feel guilty about what they did. Some people believe actual justice is the suspect spending time in prison to really have the chance to feel guilty and feel the hurt that you won't be able to see your loved ones again. The death penalty just makes it worse. When your mom punished you she didn't sentence you to death, she took away all your prized possessions and made you think about what you did wrong.
So, How do we decide on what to do with the death penalty? How do we choose what is right and what is wrong? Is it and eye for an eye or do we give the criminal a chance to think about what they did wrong and maybe even try for a chance of forgiveness? Tell me, how do you feel about the death penalty?
